As an award-winning artist and a graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art, Carolyn Councell has studied with many well-known artists. She is represented in galleries in the Mid-Atlantic area, and she is a member of several art associations in Maryland.
Carolyn primarily works with watercolor, as its spontaneity enables her to capture the spirit of her subject. Her styles range from controlled to free-flowing, but she usually prefers to combine the two to create a lively and expressive composition.
Inspired by living on the banks of a river, Carolyn paints the beauty in nature. Her favorite subjects include landscapes, seascapes, florals, and people. Working on location allows her to gain an appreciation for the subject and its surroundings.
“I try to put more into a painting than a rendering of what I see. My goal is to project the spirit of the subject in fresh and beautiful colors with assertive brush work,” Carolyn says.
