With its many rivers and nearness to the ocean, the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay area has long been the main inspiration for my painting. Loving to draw as a child has been a strong foundation for future studies. After a career in film and cable television for A&E, I am now painting full-time. Animals leap (and sleep) across my canvases and waves crash in the background, as I try to capture the spirit of the ponies of Chincoteague with their rich earthy colors against the ocean's blues. An occasional moose or bison from Wyoming will appear in other works. With wildlife and the horses as the main focus, I have studied with Matthew Hillier and taken workshops with Greg Beecham and others. Earlier classes in photography and sculpture have also informed my work. Animal gestures and attitudes as well as the play of light and shadow and surf and wind are an endless source of wonder in this amazing natural world.
